RazorUSA and
Razor Scooter
RazorUSA is a company based
in Cerritos, California that is known for manufacturing
kick scooters. It was founded in June 2000 by
Carlton Calvin. RazorUSA owns the Razor trademark
worldwide. The Razor scooter was originally
developed as a transportation mechanism for
a Taiwanese factory. An official from the Sharper
Image Japan paid a routine visit to the factory
and recognized the immediate potential of the
Razor Scooter (originally called the JD Razor)
and purchased some samples. The scooter became
a hit in Japan and soon wholesalers began importing
the scooter into the US. Recognizing the signals
of a trend, Carlton, who at the time was manufacturing
and selling miniature skateboards throughout
the US, decided to distribute the JD Razor.
Demand mushroomed into a full blown world-wide
fad and RazorUSA was born.
